Chapter 6: Husband to the rescue

"She is trying to kill herself,"

"Let's go, I'll drive you,"

"What about the food? And grandma?"

"Don't worry about it, Aunt Lin is here she will take care of everything," after saying that, Zacky held her hand and then led her outside.

"Grandma, something came up we have to leave," before any response, Zacky and Cecy had already stomped out leaving Aunt Lin and the Old Lady dumbfounded.

"Where are they?" Zacky asked as he drove out of the compound.

"Just drive, I'll give you the directions,"

As Zacky drove, he noticed Cecy's silence and he understood it all.

Cecy had always treasured the bond she shared with her twin sister, Barbara . They had grown up inseparable, their lives intertwined in a web of shared secrets and unspoken understanding. However, their unbreakable connection was about to face its greatest challenge.

Despite their difference, they were still sisters after all. It would be a lie if Cecy wasn't scared she felt very stressed up.

"I told you to run away from the marriage but you didn't," her subconscious kicked in as questions trickled down.

Cecy had always been the smartest kid from kindergarten till now but when it came to life threatening situations she became the dumbest. This was why Barbara  had more skills when it came to pretense and acting unlike her.

"Don't worry, I'm here," Zacky said after a while. His sweet, dark voice brought Cecy back to reality. She nodded her head and felt a bit relieved by assurance.

Yes, she now had a husband she wasn't alone anymore. This thought made her smile.

Immediately they had arrived, Cecy heard her mother screaming.

"Barbara  please, don't just come down and we will talk,"

Cecy alighted from the car and the followed the noise leaving Zacky to park the car.

"Mom, what is going on?" She asked as soon as she spotted them.

"Come here, this is all your fault, all your fault, how dare you show up here," Cecy was shocked to see her mother running violently toward her and immediately slapped her hardly. Before she could react she raised her hands up to slap her for a second time but she didn't.

Cecy looked up to see Zacky holding her mother's hand.

"How dare you lay your filthy hands on my wife," he spoke angrily which slightly scared Cecy's mother.

"How is it my wife's fault? Huuh?" He angrily stared at her. Cecy's mother couldn't help but shiver slightly seeing Zacky's fury.

She did all that to scare Cecy but what she didn't know was that Zacky had also come. Cecy was a fragile girl so the only way to make her leave Zacky was by scaring and threatening her who would have thought that Zacky would come.

"I....I Zacky you are here," she said reluctantly not daring to look into his eyes.

"If you want to die just kill yourself don't bother my wife this is not our problem," having said that, Zacky grabbed Cecy's hands and then walked away not sparing them any glance.

"You told me that Zacky loved you and the only problem was Cecy," Mrs Smith Cecy's mother barked angrily at Barbara .

"I...I.." Barbara  stammered she didn't expect this would be the turn out.

"Come down, stop this nonsense we are going home, didn't you see how he looked at Cecy and defended her?"

Barbara  couldn't refute what her mother had said it was very clear. She saw it all.

She began asking herself questions of how they fell in love with each other so quickly if she wasn't wrong she was away for a few days how could everything just turn.

"What are you waiting for?" Mrs. Smith barked again bringing her back from her thoughts.

Barbara  knew she had messed up seeing how furious her mother was but she was satisfied by the outcome all in all.

"Wait for me here," Zacky parked the car at the side of the road before walking into a store.

After a few minutes, he walked back with a few pills and an iced water.

"I'm sorry I was late," Zacky said softly. He couldn't help but pity Cecy.

Despite all, he knew one thing, Cecy's life wasn't so easy in the Smith's house. Seeing her quiet he understood it all. This wasn't the first time that Cecy had been hit because of Barbara .

Without being told he could tell that Barbara  was the heart of everyone in the house if not how could a mother just hit her daughter for no reason?

"Does this happen alot?" He asked after a while. Cecy lifted her eyes and then nodded her head.

She had no words. This was the first time someone had defended her before her mother she was used to being helpless. Thinking of that she made one promise.

To love and protect her marriage. And the only way to do that was to become stronger, she wouldn't let anyone bully her ever again not even her own mother.

"Have you ever thought that maybe she isn't your real mother?" Zacky broke the silence.

"How? Barbara  and I are twins and age mates," Cecy couldn't help but ask.

"We don't look alike but there are alot of things we share,"

"Are you sure? Because she doesn't act like a mother,"

"Why don't we do a DNA test to be sure, what do you say?" Zacky added.
