Chapter 17

The gentle knock on the door made Samantha confused. She wasn't expecting to receive anyone. "Are my captors here?" She asked herself. The knock on the door resounded again, this time a bit louder. But she didn't move. "It's me Sammy," the person behind the door said. Samantha's heart raced as she approached the door. She had been living a life of secrecy and isolation, and unexpected visitors were a source of anxiety. With trembling hands, she slowly turned the doorknob and opened the door just wide enough to see the person on the other side.

"Emily?" Samantha uttered in disbelief, her eyes widening as she welcomed her friend who has been away for sometime. Her surprise quickly gave way to relief, and she swung the door open to embrace Emily tightly.

"Emily, I can't believe it's you," Samantha said, her voice filled with a mix of emotions. " Why didn't you inform me that you will be coming?, you almost squeezed life out of me. But how did you know that I've left your apartment?"
