Esmere POV
And although Aamon’s words implied I should not be worried about him having an intimate relationship with that woman, his actions greatly contradicted them.
It has been three days since I last talked to him, and even though we were under the same roof, I haven’t seen him.
“The alpha has never gone outside his room since the day he arrived. What could he be doing inside the whole three days?” Ophelia said.
We were in the garden outside the castle with Cecilia at that time.
Ophelia was right — Aamon has never gone outside his room ever since that day we talked. Rocco was the one who did all the chores he should have been doing.
And that right-hand man was too loyal — he refused to answer every question regarding the alpha, even if it was me asking.
“Madam, I believe you talked to the alpha the other day?” Cecilia suddenly let out a question.
I looked at her and smiled. “Yes.”
“What did he say about his supposed mate?”
“He told me that we should not be worried about her existence,” I said reassuringly. “He only brought her here for a while for her safety. She seems to have become a target of the southern pack because of his fated connection to Aamon.”
“How come the southern pack knew about her existence?” Cecilia said suspiciously.
“I- I don’t know. He did not tell me,” I answered. “We should have just faith in our alpha.”
Ophelia then asked worriedly. “Does it mean that she will stay here with us?”
I smiled at them. “Don’t worry. She will be here only for a moment. Aamon will transfer her to a safe place once he finds one.”
Cecilia breathed a sigh of relief as she held her chest. “Oh, that’s good. I don’t want you to be in an awkward situation.”
I let out a gentle laugh and answered, “Don’t worry about me, and also, she has not done anything wrong, so we should do our part in making her feel safe.”
“You are always so nice, madam,” Ophelia told me. “That’s why I am so proud to be a western werewolf just like you.”
On the other hand, Cecilia pouted her lips as if she were sulking. “She’s a northern werewolf as well.”
We were laughing and talking at that time when suddenly we sensed an unusual presence.
A presence that was so different from a werewolf.
A human!
The three of us simultaneously looked at the spot where we had sensed the aura and saw a lone woman standing there.
She wore a white dress and was looking back at us as well.
My chest painfully throbbed upon realizing who that woman was.
It was her — Aamon’s mate.
“Hey!” she said as she gradually approached us. “I am Elisa.”
Ophelia, who seemed irritated by the woman’s presence, answered, “She is the northern luna.”
Elisa smiled confidently and replied, “I know. It’s the reason I approached you.” Then she looked at me and continued, “Hello, Esmere! I have longed to meet you since we will be together here in the castle.”
She called me by my name only as if we were friends and equals — and in a confident and proud tone.
The woman continued speaking. “Sorry if I introduced myself too late. I only have the time now since Aamon went away for some alliance meeting.”
Cecilia and Ophelia gazed at her, astounded.
I was also surprised. I did not know that Aamon went away — he did not tell me.
“We just told you she is the northern luna — the alpha’s wife. It would be best if you showed some respect while you are here in the northern land,” Ophelia blurted out.
Confused, Elisa answered, “But I am a northern luna, too. We are equals.”
“What?” Cecilia and Ophelia blurted out in surprise.
“There can only be one luna — the one who has the mark of the alpha. You are not a northern luna,” Cecilia told her as calmly as possible.
“But I am Aamon’s mate, and that makes me a northern luna,” Elisa protested. “I only came here to the north to be one.”
And at that time, I was the one who reacted. “What?” I uttered in bewilderment.
I could not believe that I had heard such words from her.
She came here to be a northern luna. That was a terrible joke.
Elisa looked at me with a severe countenance and answered, “Yes. Aamon told me.”
My heart suddenly thumped so fast.
It was not my temperament to be easily triggered by nonsensical things, but at that time, I answered, “No. You are only here because the southern pack thinks you are Aamon’s weakness due to your fated connection with him, and you have become their target.”
“W- what do you mean?” Elisa muttered, seemingly scared by what she had just heard from me.
“Aamon is currently looking for a safe place for you,” I continued.
Elisa’s face suddenly became filled with confusion, and that was when I wondered if she even knew her situation.
Then, after just a few moments, Rocco arrived and saw Elisa. He cried in relief. “Ma’am Elisa. I have been looking all over the castle for you. A human’s presence is weak, so please always stay by my side whenever the alpha is not around.”
But when he realized Elisa was standing there with me, Rocco’s expression became uncomfortable. “Madam?” he said upon looking at me.
I gazed at him and asked, “I didn’t know that Aamon went away, and why aren’t you with him?”
“Madam,” he answered in an awkward voice. “I am in charge of guarding Ma’am Elisa while the alpha is not around.”
“But she will be safe here even when you are not here,” I said.
Rocco stroked his throat before answering. “Yes, but the alpha has ordered me to show her the castle and attend to her needs.”
On the other hand, Elisa was just standing there. She seemed to be really shocked by what I had just told her about being the southern pack’s target.
Rocco lowered his head and told me, “We will be leaving first, madam.” Then he immediately took Elisa away.
I was left there with Cecilia and Ophelia.
“Let’s get some rest, madam,” Cecilia told me upon noticing my unpleasant expression.
I agreed, and while walking to my room, I couldn’t take Elisa’s words off my mind.
“I only came here to the north to be a luna.”
What the hell did Aamon say for her to utter such a remark?

That night, I was soundly sleeping in my room when suddenly I was awakened by a loud banging on the door.
I immediately stood up from the bed when I saw someone had forcefully opened it.
That presence. I couldn’t be wrong.
My heart almost jumped out of my chest when I saw Aamon emerge from the door and tell me, “I need to talk to you, Esmere.”
He told me that in such an angry voice.

That presence. I couldn’t be wrong. My heart almost jumped out of my chest when I saw Aamon emerge from the door and tell me, “I need to talk to you, Esmere.” He told me that in such an angry voice. I looked at him in confusion as I muttered, “What is it you want to talk about this late at night?” Aamon gazed at me in an expression that I couldn’t even read. “I didn’t expect you to do something like that.” I remained to look at him, not knowing what he was talking about. And my whole body froze the moment Aamon raised his voice. “Why did you have to scare Elisa like that?” It was the first time he raised his voice toward me, whi
Esmere POV “The night after tomorrow?” Ophelia blurted out. “The alpha must be kidding. We cannot possibly invite every northern werewolf on the continent on such short notice.” I breathed a heavy sigh as I looked out the big window of my room that night. The full moon shone brilliantly above, and the calm wind caressed my skin. “It’s a full moon,” I whispered. Ophelia gazed at me cluelessly. “Madam, have you heard even a single thing I said?” I glanced back at her and gave her a bitter smile. “Yes. I heard everything you said, but there is nothing I could do but follow his orders, right?” Yes. I could do nothing but agree. I did not want to see that angry expression again from Aamon. “If only Miss Cecilia is here. She can certainly help us with this problem,” Ophelia murmured in a sad voice. I pat Ophelia’s shoulder and answere
Esmere POV Elisa emerged from where Aamon came from — from the top of the stairs. She wore a long white dress that flowed with her every move while she carefully went down the stairs. Every eye on that place was set on her, watching her as if she was the moon goddess descending from heaven. And Aamon… Aamon could not hide even an inch of delight on his face — I knew he was so proud of her. My heart painfully throbbed upon seeing that scene. Aamon used to give me that kind of glance, but at that time, I was just another werewolf standing there. “Her name is Elisa,” Aamon introduced her when they reached each other. “But, Master…” One northern werewolf suddenly talked. “I get you found your mate, but as we already know, we have a Luna now. We already have a northern queen.” And then, all the northern werewolves there suddenl
Esmere POV It had been two days since that night Aamon confronted me, and I still could not get his words off my mind. “She is my mate, and you are someone I marked out of duty. Don’t be confused.” Aamon and I were together for five years, and he never made me feel like I was a stranger in his pack. But that night, it all came out. He revealed his true feelings for me. I gripped my chest when I felt a stinging in my heart. I did not know it could hurt this much — so painful that I could feel it physically. Two days passed, and I never left my room even once. Ophelia was the one who did all the things I should have been doing outside. And… And Aamon never once checked out on me. Maybe he did not even notice my absence. His mind was clouded with the ideas of his lovely mate and the things they should do after not meeting for ma
Esmere POV “Hey, bastards. Tell me how you want to die,” someone’s voice uttered when I was about to be captured by the three attackers. All of us turned our gaze to the direction where the voice came from and saw a silhouette casually walking towards us. The moon shone on the figure, and I realized it was a man wearing a white long-sleeved and a pair of black pants. And I was quite taken aback at seeing his features. He has black hair with gray eyes — just like Aamon’s. “Who are you, punk?” One of the attackers aggressively asked him. The man smiled as if he was not caught in a bad situation. He was chilling while one of his hands was casually in his pocket. “No need for introduction; you are going to die, anyway,” he replied. “What can a pretty boy like you do to us?” the attacker said, mocking the mysterious man. Suddenly, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at the
Esmere POV “Seeing that you are doing nothing and just resting here, I want you to do something for me,” Aamon told me upon seeing that I was on the bed. I immediately stood up and composed myself so he wouldn’t notice that I was sick at that time. “What is it?” “I want you to lead the alteration of the entire castle.” My eyebrows wrinkled upon hearing what he had just said. “What do you mean by changing the castle?” Aamon gave me a sharp gaze and answered, “Elisa was hurt by touching a sword inside. I want you to remove every dangerous weapon in this castle.” Elisa. That one name again. “But those weapons are where they are supposed to be,” I protested. “We need them in case of a sneak attack.” “Oh goodness, Esmere. Do you hear yourself?” he said, and he seemed very annoyed. “We are werewolves. Our claws are the weapons!” And when I heard
Esmere POV The northern werewolves were rounded up by the entrance as if they were ready to fight at any moment. Aamon had a stern look on his face. “What’s happening?” I whispered as Ophelia and I watched them in curiosity. Suddenly, a man entered the castle. He wore a coat made of fur. And upon seeing his face, my eyes widened in astonishment. “That man — that mysterious man!” I exclaimed. I couldn’t be wrong. That man was the one who saved me last night. “Do you know him, Madam?” Ophelia asked me. I couldn’t tell Ophelia what had happened to me that night and why I was familiar with the man. I did not want to worry her furthermore. “No. It’s the first time I have seen him,” I lied. We continued to watch the scene as the ambiance got darker and darker. “Why is everyone so te
Esmere POV Fortunately, my condition did not worsen after we finished gathering all the weapons inside the castle. After finishing the task Aamon had given us, Ophelia assisted me to my room and brought some medicine. Seeing how tired she was, I told her to retire for the night and take some rest. Initially, Ophelia did not want to leave me and insisted on sleeping in my room, but I told her I wanted to be alone and assured her I wouldn’t leave my room that night. The wind that night was so cold, and there was a crescent moon above. I could hear the singing of the crickets, and that sound could somehow comfort me. My room has an expansive terrace that’s directly facing the northern forest. Aamon used to enter from there whenever he wanted to visit me before, and then we would talk about the future of the northern pack and our future children until sunrise.
