118. Regret 8

Capt. Bruce saluted Richard and the others saluted him before he left without regard for Tim.

“How will you leave, Max?” George asked with concern.

“I can find my way, General.”

“I can give him a ride,” Mark volunteered.

“Thank you for that, Engr. Robbie. I will take you to your office when you come in the morning.”

“It is all right, President,” he said and greeted the Major, “Good night, Major,” while he waved at Tim and the rest.

“Good night, Engr. Robbie,” Richard responded.

Now, Richard and Frank were beside the station wagon while Collins and George were walking towards his car.

“Collins,” Tim called out.

The two stopped in their tracks and he answered, “Yes Boss.”

“You will drive the station wagon home,” he informed him and waited for his reaction.

George squeezed his face as though Tim fouled the air. Collins thought fast on how to refute the order politely. Now all eyes were on him and they waited for his response.

“I would have loved to, Boss but I have not read the manual.”
