Nora

"I see we have company, dad," she said as she came closer. I still didn't turn. I watched the smile on her father's face gradually disappear, and he swallowed hard. From his expression, I could tell that Grace would not be pleased to see me in their home.

The closer she came, the more my heart raced.

"Nora?" she said in an unsure tone when she was a few inches from me.

I took a deep breath to steady myself and turned to look at her, clutching onto my car keys in my hand, my fingernails creating half moons in my palm.

"It is you!" she shrieked.

"How dare you come here after all these years?" There was so much anger in her voice when she spoke.

I lowered my head, not knowing what to say.

"Dad, what is she doing here?"

"Calm down, Grace…"

"Don't tell me to calm down, dad! I want this stranger out of our house now!" she shrieked.

I stood there not moving. Rather, I lifted my head and glanced at her with pleading eyes, hoping it would make her feel better, but rather it made everythin
