Chapter 17: Wanting Her Mark

I could see where Daphne was coming from. It was not that I didn’t understand her concerns or fears, or that I didn’t get the power her family had. But I was head over heels for her. I couldn’t get her out of my head, so trying to imagine a future without her was simply not possible, and I believed we could do the impossible. Hadn’t Ana and Roman? I knew he was king, so it did change something, but they would have our backs. I knew that. It was an interesting point Daphne brought up. How her family would get their revenge not through fighting or killing, but through rumors and poisonous words. That changed something. It made me think even more about what there was to lose for both of us. I had really not thought this through, had I?

“I can sense that changed something,” she whispered.

“I still want you.”

Neither of us were looking at each other, though.

“And I want you.”

“But you’re right. The thought is scary.”
