Bolu
The sound of buzzer and dogs barking made me stir, as I hugged the pillow tighter, pressing my face into it. The stupid barking increased and I grudgingly sat upright, and ran my hand through my wildly tangled hair. I stretched my foot looking for one pair of slipper I had worn last night.
I could feel my lips twitching into a pout.I yawned with my hand fisted against my mouth, stretched my arms and wore the comfy bedroom flip-flops I had worn last night. The air conditioner had made them cold though.
Wondering why Alex wasn't in bed with me, I decided to head into his study.
The damn guy must've slept in there. But he wasn't there when I got in. Meanwhile, barking of the dogs had gone out of control, like the were having mental disorder.
"Alex!" My voice boomed his name, as I searched for him "You better go check up on those your dogs. Because I think they've gone nuts overnight." I searched in vain for him. And the damn man was nowhere to be found inside the house.
Finally I went out of house in search of him and saw the dogs jumping and barking, while Alex was throwing a tiny ball in the air, and the dogs were jumping to get hold of it. I felt my face transform into a scowl.
"There you go boys." He said throwing the ball into the air and grinning like a fool. His dark-brown hair had tumbled on his forehead, making him look unmercifully beautiful, like a Greek demi-god. The two giant dogs tried to catch the ball, but they couldn't. He was throwing the ball higher and higher, and laughed when the dogs jumped and fell flat on the floor since they couldn't get hold of it. I bit my lip, because there was a noiseless mystery he was enveloped in, despite being with the dogs.
He stopped and held the ball, laughing out loudly, while the dogs stood waiting for him to throw the ball, wiggling their tails sideways with their tongues out, as they panted.
Jealousy jolt on my insides, on seeing how happy he was, with his dogs. I wished he could be that happy with me. But he'd be so cold to me. He rarely ever did smile. He had never even laugh with me. But here he was, laughing heartedly with his dogs.
I was so jealous because I longed to see the man who'd captured my heart, smile and laugh with me. He was so cold, not only to me, but to himself and the people around him. Sometimes I wondered why he was like that, I suspected something made him that cold.
He always ignored me whenever I tried asking him about his past. He hardly even talked. He only did when he was asked a question.
I recalled how I had met and fall for him three months ago.
Flash back
I was in my apartment that Wednesday afternoon. Every Wednesday was my day off, so mom called me on the phone to come over to the house to deliver Dad's favourite dish 'Kpanla stew and Amala(A popular dish in Nigeria, mostly in Lagos) To dad's office. I knew mum had enough servants at home, but she called me to come over to the house, which I did.
I arrived at the house half an hour later, murmuring that I wasn't a kid anymore. And my mom bursted into a boisterous laugher at this.
"See why I told you to return to the house and start leaving here with us until you get married."
"I'm thirty-three mum, 'Emi laye mi' ( I own my life)." I protested grumpily." I'm no longer a kid."
"But you still are to me. My beautiful, beautiful girl." Mom had complimented beaming as she poked on my cheek.
"Where is the kpanla stew?"
"It's in the kitchen, waiting for you." She replied balancing her heavy weight on the couch, where she was watching a Yoruba movie.
Moments later, I made my way out of the kitchen with the flask. The scowl was still perpetual on my face."Mom, you ought to know that I'm not a kid anymore. What if I was on duty at the hospital? Would you have called me to deliver the kpanla stew at Dad's office? Why can't you send one of your maids to deliver it?"
"My daughter, you know your dad doesn't like the maids delivering his food." She leaned closer to me, place her hand at the side of my cheek, and whispered into my ear. "He's afraid they'll poison him."
I scoffed. "Poison him? That's not true mom. Just say you want to see my face. You missed me that much?"
She rolled her eyes then broke into a smile.
"Got you." Laughing, I kissed her goodbye then headed straight to dad's office.
When I arrived, Dad's secretary informed me he was having a meeting with the lawyers. So I decided to wait until the meeting was over.
I sat on the chair, outside dad's office, the one opposite dad's Secretary. Chatting on the Facebook with some guy who I was quite acquainted with, when I saw lawyers walking out from the conference hall.
I raised my head up to stare at them. They were stealing glances at me as well. One dark stunted growth lawyer refused to take his eyes off me, until his head collided with elevator he was about going forth in. I bubbled with laughter at this.
I was still laughing when I saw dad's Secretary brushing her hair with her index finger and blushing furiously, making her resemble a freshly plucked out tomato, straight from the garden. I traced my eyes to what was source of her uneasiness and then, I saw him.
He was tall. Had broad shoulders. Long long well sculptured legs, that took confident filled strides like he owned the place and had no care in the world. Handsome like a god, had a perfectly well chiseled face. Sharp curved jaw and thin hard purple lips. The fact that his eye lashes were longer than my own, made him not to be trusted. He was biracial.
An Indian-Nigerian, with golden skin. His dark brown hair was short with a little swoosh in the front. He was clad in a white ironed to crisp short sleeve shirt, tight fitted black jeans pants, and black combat boots.
I wondered who he was.
BoluHis eyes met mine swiftly, and sweet Jesus, I felt a jolt in my body. My teeth chattered as I shuddered, because it all felt like a misapprehension that this mysterious male just connected his eyes with mine, and looked away. There was something odd and intriguing about him, that commanded attention. I mean he was so cold looking and attractive at the same time, that I had doubts if he smiled or laughed.I was still occupied, ogling at him until he popped the buttons on the elevator, and hopped in. When the elevator slid down, I felt my heart going haywire.Holy Fudgenuts Molly. No Wonder Dad's Secretary was blushing furiously, when she saw him.I was still lost in
Charles"Congratulations you idiot, you just got caught. Now keep your gun down, raise your hands up, and turn around." I yelled, aiming the gun at the thief who had his back to me. He and three other guys went about robbing First Bank. We were called by a lady who hid in the restroom when she saw the thieves. When I and my colleagues arrived, we caught two of the thieves who were hijacking people's phones, money and jewelries. We succeeded in arresting them.Unsatisfied, because there were two thieves to be caught and handcuffed, I left my colleagues and went out all alone, in search of the thieves. Because I felt they were still in the building. And not too long ago I caught one trying to escape through the fence with the bag of money in his gloved hands. He kept the bag and gun down, raised h
CharlesIt was a minute past ten when I arrived at my mom's house to pick up Ruby. Mom's house was thirty minutes drive away from my house. I felt it was better for Ruby to stay at her granny's than hiring a nanny to look after her. So I always left her at my mlm's house, spend an hour or two with her, before returning to the office."Good evening, Charles." Mom greeted when I went into her view. She was sitting on the sofa in her sitting room, reading the bible with her thick lensed glasses on.I stared into that once beautiful face which was now wrinkled from old age. She was sixty two but age quickly. Currently looking like she gained twenty years in existence to her appearance. Because of the H.B.P and diabetes she had.She also had a short hair which had the variat
MiaRachael Okafor, the owner of Five Star Luxury Hotel at Lekki was hosting a party that evening in her hotel.Only the wealthy people in town had access to be invited; Ministers, Commissioners, Musicians, Celebrities, and so on.But somehow, I stole the invitation card from the post man who was delivering the invitation cards.I was at the park that saturday afternoon, watching parents, children and young couples having fun, and letting the cool breeze soothe my physical frame, when a postman stopped his motorcycle at the side of where I was sitting. And hurried into the bushy part of the park to take a piss. Poor guy must have been pressed. The nosy part of me urged me to stand up, take the lead of the box, and peeked in. That was how I saw Rachel Okafor's name written on one of the inv
AlexShe stared at me oddly, with her eyes studying my face. I knew it was stupid of me grabbing her by the arm, but I felt the urge to help her."Listen to me." I said, tightening my grip on her arm, when she tried breaking free from my hold. Raising her head up to look at me, her face twisted into a giant scowl."I saw and heard everything that occurred between you and the usher guy at the door. I'll help you get a dress." I offered. Her big eyes shone and her sassy mouth quivered.Although, she was dressed like a boy, but that couldn't disguise the fact that she was pretty. She was light skinned, tall, bony with no curves and gangly. Big bulgy eyes and full luscious lips. She wasn't smiling but her dimples were visible.
MiaI made my way into Ben&Jj'sthat same evening after my encounter with the rude lawyer. After I had alighted from his car, I took a cab to Ben&Jj's.It was one of my favoriteeatery. The atmosphere was always cool and lovely. Plus taste of food was like heaven. It was the second place that made me feel at comfy. There every one minded his or her business because they were after the delicious taste of their delicacy.Food at Been& Jj's was at a very affordable price, that was the main reason I chose it as my favourite.I slumped on a chair, not too far from the kitchen entrance. That was my favorite tabletop. I watched as the heavy fans hung the celling spun lazily, decreasing the smell of varieties of mouth watering meals. And it made me forget about
MiaI frowned, wondering why wealthy people derived pleasure in showing off their wealth. Who the heck would come to Ben&Jj's with a convoy? Obviously the person wanted to showcase his wealth. I hissed.A very huge guy hopped out from the limousine, walked up to me, and informed me that his boss wanted to see me. This statement got me pissed and amused the same time."Who the hell is your boss? And why does he wants to see me?"I asked scowling up at him. Then it occurred to me that it might be Rachael who had wanted to see me. Perhaps, she was told about me, and has made the decision to meet with me.The anger I had in me died down, when that floated over my head."Listen to me, if you don't get your flat ass into the car, I'm going to have to force you in myself."
MiaHis right eye was tied with a tiny piece of black clothing. And from that part downwards was disfigured. Like they had skinked acid on that side of his face.As if he'd read my thoughts, he thought about something for a few seconds, his muscles ticking along his jaw. Then he said in an undertone."Oh, that." He rubbed the said face part.It was disgusting, I had to look away to avoid vomiting."It's a result of the injury I sustained from a police officer. He shot me in the eye."As if I cared to know. I muttered under my breath, winning against the urge to roll my eyes. I allowed my gaze to dart all over him.Terror clenched my insides because I knew why he sent Hulk to ho
