Chapter Six

 Orion's POV

That stupid girl.

What had been running through the moon goddess's mind when she made her my fated mate? How can an Alpha bred like me be paired with the likes of her?

I walked towards the pictures and picked one up, choking back my emotions.

Where are you, Sophia?

Sophia is the first woman to make my heart beat, the first woman to make me experience butterflies in my belly. I met her as a young boy and my heart accepted that she alone was the one for me.

I was so sure she felt the same way I did, I mean before I went abroad, we had made a  pact. Not some weird blood oath people took, no ours was different. We simply pinky swore.

Everyone knows how sacred a pinky swear is so I felt secure because she had promised to wait for me. I never expected she would run off with some other man before I showed up.

What woman wouldn't want an Alpha as her partner for the rest of her life?

I  sighed, placed the picture frame back where it had been on the cupboard and turned, glaring at the bags that were stacked in a corner of the room. How long until I could find Sophia so this woman could get out of my life?

I had a mind to kick the bags on my way out but I  decided against it and simply walked out of the room, bumping into my butler, Bruce. He bowed as he spotted me and I grunted in response,  walking off.

I walked until I got to my office door. Well, it was still my father’s office but I was using it until I could convert the room closest to my room into my office. I opened the door and stuck my head inside to peek around.

I sighed in relief when I found it empty and walked in, slamming the door behind me. All the servants knew what that meant; I didn't want to be disturbed.

As I settled in the seat behind the mahogany desk, memories of the training sessions I  had witnessed came back to my mind and I shook my head in disgust.

Ciara or what’s her face couldn’t even hold her own against another wolf in a  fight. How was she supposed to stand by my side and lead this great pack?

Did the Heartfield think this was a joke? How could they pick her out of all the substitutes they could have chosen for me? Thanks to the mate bond, I had saved her from being bullied earlier by another female wolf.

I recognized that one because she had made passes at me repeatedly since I got back despite the fact that she had stolen Clara’s boyfriend; a fact I had just learnt when I joined them.

She’s so weak it’s a wonder, she and Sophia are even related. Perhaps if I had met her first, maybe, just maybe I would have considered her. But

Sophia has my heart now, and she always will.

I  sighed and looked around me, taking in my environment for the first time since I set foot inside the office. The desk for the first time had been tidied up and all the papers were carefully placed on top of each other. The files were on one side and other things were arranged neatly.

I wondered briefly who had worked some magic here. The person deserved a medal or an award of some kind. My beta, James, walked in just as I was lost in thought.

“Alpha..” he called, clearing his throat and I looked up, my hands brushing the papers on the table.  They scattered and I was quick to fix them. I couldn’t let the effort of the magician go to waste.

“The man you put in charge of the search is here to see you.” He informed me and my mood improved immediately.

The man in question was the one I had hired to find Sophia. If he was here then that could only mean he had news for me.

“Bring him in and get one of the servants to bring refreshments.”

He nodded and walked out.

I was alone again.

Running my hands through my hair, I wondered what I would say to Sophia when I  eventually found her and she was standing in front of me. I closed my eyes as memories of our childhood came to mind. She had the first friend  I had ever made and what a blessing her presence in my life had been.

Maybe it was my fault for not writing to her while I was away but I couldn’t.  Things had been too complicated back then and it was thoughts of coming back to her that had kept me going, every day.

The door opened just then and I didn’t have time to go back to the past any longer.

“This way,”

I watched my Beta lead the man into my office, the servant bearing the refreshments walking behind them.

“Alpha  Orion.” The man greeted me, finally acknowledging me and I sat up. If this man could find Sophia then I would forever be in his debt. Forever.

“Welcome. What do you have for me?” I asked, getting into it immediately.

“Any news?”

He eyed me closely, his eyes glossing over as if he had something to say. I  narrowed my eyes, my Alpha side hating his attitude.

“Well?” I  pressed and he gulped, looking away. I eyed my Beta and he just shrugged, going to sit on the couch at the far end of the room.

“I think I found her location,” He announced and I almost crossed the table to give him a hug. Almost.

I think this is the best news I have heard in days.

“I want to hear everything. James, please serve the tea.”

James got to work immediately while the man started speaking.

Don't worry Sophia, we will be together soon.
