"Do you think they are rogues?" George the captain of the elite warriors asked his subordinate.
"I don't know sir. I can't smell them. But they are definitely rogues. I caught one of them, he had their signature sickly wolf but had a triangle branded on their left side of their body near their ribs."
George suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned around facing the nineteen-year-old Sam who joined the team recently "Did you say they had a triangle branding on their left side?" He asked with uncertainty.
"Yes sir. I can't be mistaken, they were about thirty or so." George nodded his head, his eyes shining with confidence.
"Did you manage to catch any of them?" George continued walking, his combat boots raising a cloud of dust in its wake.
"Sir we are still trying to hold them back. They seem intent on getting something. More like they are looking for something."
"Are you crazy?! They are still at the border fighting their way in and you couldn't mindlink me about it?" George shouted at Sam making the poor soldier shudder in fear.
George was a man of great power and might. Six feet tall with large arms of rippling muscles. He joined the army when he was fourteen surprising everyone when he passed the test of joining the elite warriors.
Since then, he never failed to amaze everyone with his capabilities that people grew tired of multiple surprises from him.
"I, sir I thought…" Sam was caught short as he watched George shift into his wolf form, running towards the pack's border.
Sam also followed suit, turning into a light grey wolf.
On getting to the pack border, George found out Sam was right about the rogues.
They were the triangle wolfs or so they called themselves. He had always wondered the reason the branding on their left side left a scar. As a werewolf, their healing abilities were top-notch. But these rogues had a permanent scar.
He watched for a moment the battle between the rogues and his men. His men were doing a good job of keeping the rogues away. But what he didn't fail to notice was, the rogues had gotten stronger.
The rogues had a knack for going against his pack members but the warriors didn't fail to eliminate them each time.
But now, they were quite matched in terms of strength and agility. Like they had tampered with themselves.
But that's impossible. He shook the thought out of his head. There's no way they have the means and resources to do so.
The rogues began to retreat when they saw they couldn't breach the warrior's formation.
George hurried towards a rogue who was within reach aiming for his heart. He swung his arms in one fluid motion but the rogue surprised him by going out of the way and running away, not daring to fight back.
"Stand back! Let them go. I have a feeling they'll be back." George told his warriors who were giving some of the rogues a hot chase.
They made their way back, turning into their human form, fully clothed. Their clothes were made of the best durable material. So when they turned into their Wolf form, the materials don't shred.
George looked at his claws which were stained in blood. The wolf wasn't so lucky as George had torn a part of his flesh away.
'He won't last.' George thought, a sinister smile on his face. Some warriors shuddered when they saw the smile. They knew it wasn't a good one.
"Everyone return to your homes and instruct the night shifts to take over. I can see you are tired." He boomed after he had turned into his human form.
"Yes sir!" They chorused with beaming smiles on their tired faces. After all, It's not every day they get to take a day off.
The warriors dispersed leaving only him in the area.
"Get the warriors who work the night shift today to take over right now. There's been a battle." He mindlinked his second in command.
"Got that sir." His second-in-command replied through the link within seconds.
After cutting off the link, George put his hands to his nose inhaling the smell of the blood which had belonged to the rogue. It smelled nothing like a rogue but different. It was slippery and dark, he observed. Something was amiss.
"Beta Aiden, you'd better come see this. I'm at the border right now. We were attacked by some rogues." He mindlinked the beta.
After a few seconds, the beta replied. "Don't tell me you still can't take care of a few rogues?" Beta Aiden joked through the link.
"That's not it. The rogues, they seem different. I can't explain it over the link. It's better you come see for yourself." George replied in a serious tone.
"Alright, I'll be there in a jiffy. Give me a few minutes." With that, the link was cut off.
***********
"Why can't I smell them?" Aiden looked at the blood on the ground which covered a lot of leaves on the forest floor.
The rogue had lost a lot of blood, giving the Beta a better chance of examining the blood.
"I don't know sir. Do you think they did…"
"No, that's not possible." George was caught short by Aiden. He knew what was on George's mind.
All his playfulness was gone, leaving him with a serious look that made him one of the most feared men in the pack.
He can be a little playful at times but when it came down to matters relating to the safety of the pack, he never messes around. And that was one of his best traits.
Aiden bent down sniffing the area, trying to get a whisp of something that will confirm his suspicion but he was met with something odd.
George stood closely behind Aiden, watching him without uttering a word. He knew what was on George's mind but George was in denial. He couldn't blame him. He too could hardly believe it.
The silence of the forest was broken by warriors, trailing in one after another to take on the shift.
Some were talking excitedly about what had happened a few minutes ago. Who wouldn't? The rogues had gotten stronger by a wide margin. The news had gotten to them faster than George would like to admit.
"We'd better inform the alpha." Aiden said with a gruff voice.
Alexander ran his hand through his hair for the millionth time. He had been feeling on edge lately. Everything little pisses him out. He had no idea why.The full moon just passed. Usually, everyone feels stressed when the full moon is approaching but this time, he felt it in full waves. 'I better go for a run.' He thought. Although he went for a run two days back he didn't know the reason for his grumpy attitude. "You're missing your mate." His wolf, Reon said to him in his head. George could swear his wolf rolled his eyes at him. His wolf has been so whiny about getting their mate and he didn't like it. He wanted a mate, but he had given up the idea of a mate. Most wolves get their mate at the ripe age of eighteen or nineteen. But at twenty-five, he's yet to get his. He had gone to most of the pack in hopes of meeting her there but all were void. Perhaps the moon goddess didn't pair him with one. Bless his luck."Shut up. I.dont.need.a.fucking.mate!" He hissed at his wolf and bl
Claire pushed the food around in her plate, her appetite gone. She looked over at Micheal who devoured his food like he hadn't eaten in days. He had such a large appetite. She observed.Feeling her stare on him, Micheal looked up and met Claire's eyes."Don't you like the food?" He asked a look of concern on his face."I do. It actually quite nice." Claire gave him a small smile of reassurance."Then why aren't you eating? You need the food much more than I do. You are malnourished." He said eating his food while keeping his eyes on her, observing her reaction.Claire smiled and looked up. She knew she needed to get her strength back as soon as possible but at that moment, she wasn't feeling up to it. Perhaps it was because she was in an unfamiliar environment and it brought back memories. She took up the spoon in her hand and scooped up a large spoonful of mashed potatoes aware of Micheal's gaze on her.She put the food in her mouth, chewing showing. She had to admit, Micheal is su
Claire wandered aimlessly around the house with no destination in mind. She was bored out of her mind. She had been in the house for a week but holed up in it.She wasn't allowed to step foot outside of the house in fear if the rogues notiviny her. So she only stays on the pouch daydreaming about how her life would be.But today, she decided to try out a door. The door is situated at the back of the house. She always notices it but doesn't have the courage to take a look at it. The door always draws her in. Like it recognises its owner. Claire took a deep breath as she stood in front of the door. It's either to go in or Chicken out like she always does. With bated breath, she placed hedoorknob the door knob. She twisted it and out of shock, she realised the door wasn't locked all this while. The door made a squeaking sound as it opened with great difficulty. She looked around her, expecting to see Michael with a disapproving look on his face but there was no one. It wasn't like
'Running through the woods, Alexander was Keen to catch her this time. He shifted into his wolf but no matter how much he ran, he was unable to catch her.The funny part? She was running on two legs. She had on a red cloak which blew in the wind as she ran.He didn't know the reason he was after her but his instincts told him to get her no matter what. So he pushed through with maximum speed. He was getting closer and finally he got a hold of her, pouncing on her. He pinned her down on the dirt floor with his large paws, her back to him. He inhaled her scent which calmed his nerves and made his heart beat fast erratically. She lay unmoving on the ground like she had surrendered herself to him and not the feisty runner she was a while ago. He pushed off her, holding her still while he turned back into his human form. Standing up gently, she turned towards him as a bright light blinded him, making him unable to see her face.'"Fuck! Not again!" Alexander groaned as he opened his eyes
Sweat dripped from Claire as she spared Micheal, countering his moves. Micheal's reflexes were top notch regardless of his age.In the past three days since Claire had started to train, she has improved tremendously. She's a fast learner, Micheal thought. He wanted to extend their training to a week but he knew time wasn't on their side so he decided to make it three days.Claire was going to work for someone from the Crescent moon pack. He didn't tell her for fear of her rejection. He knew how feared people were of that pack because of the stories that came from the pack. Especially the alpha who was termed a cold, heartless and brutal alpha especially to rogues or anyone who dares to cross his paths. He stumbled backwards as Claire used her right leg hitting him on his face squarely. He had been lost in thoughts and hadn't seen that coming.Although Claire had gotten stronger by a wide margin, she still wasn't able to land a clean hit if given the opportunity. Blood rushed from
"Where did you say you're from?" Isabelle looked condescendingly at a skinny girl who looked like a ghost beside Claire. There were five of them altogether. Claire was the last person on the row. They were in Isabelle's room being interviewed by her. Apparently, she grew bored of her last maid and killed her off wanting a new maid. Every once in a while she changes maids like they were some toilet paper. "Stone pack ma'am." The poor girl quivered in her shoes as her eyes danced on her feet. She was obviously scared to death. Claire couldn't blame her because Isabelle was intimating coupled with what she has done with her past maids. No one wanted to get chosen by Isabelle because their fate would be sealed from there. But couldn't afford to piss her off either. They all begged the moon goddess not to be chosen by her. Claire wasn't really scared because she knew she'd never get chosen by Isabelle. From the gossip she heard from the servants quarters, Isabelle chose tall blonde
Alpha Alexander sat down on his chair, his beta opposite him babbling away. His mind had gone miles from where he was.He had a dream that morning. But this time, there was a slight difference. He had managed to see her face. But what frustrates him right now, he couldn't remember her face. Everything had turned blurry in his memory. He hated himself for not being able to remember bthe face of his destined. He did remey one thing though, he remembered he was awestruck by her beauty. Never had he seen someone as beautiful as she was."Dummy, you can't even remember the face of our mate. So how are we going to find her?" His wolf asked as he was disappointed with Alexander. "It isn't my fault. It's like something is blocking me from seeing her face. I just can't explain it.""That doesn't exclude the fact that you've forgotten her face." His wolf said, angry. "I hope I'll see her again tonight. I'll make sure to brand every detail of her face into my memory." Alexander said with confi
Alexander watched as her confusion flooded her eyes. He knew she didn't know who he was. He was sure she'll be terrified once she finds out who he is because of the stories that had been tied to his name."Our mate is so fine." His wolf said dreamily in his head.He looked closely at her and his dream came flooding back. He could remember his dream now. But her hair color was different from the one he saw in the dream. But right now her hair's color black. He'll have to ask her later.Claire was shocked and speechless as she gazed into the coffee-black eyes of a man who was her fated mate. She felt the mate bond string as she stared at him silently. She did not know what to make of it. She never thought her mate would come from this dreaded pack and the way Isabelle fawned over him, it was obvious he was of high rank. A Gamma or a Beta? She was yet to see the Alpha. He was a very attractive male. She observed. Tall, broad shoulders with packs she guessed from the way his stomach was h
