Healing Wounds

Skylar stared out of her window, watching raindrops slide down the glass. Two weeks had passed since the argument with Jason, yet the wound he left behind still festered in her heart. She replayed his harsh words over and over again, questioning her worth. Her brother Emilio had been her rock, but even his efforts couldn’t shake her from this despair.

“Hey, sis,” Emilio said, entering Skylar’s room with a tray of hot cocoa and cookies. “Thought you might need a pick-me-up.”

Skylar forced a smile, grateful for her brother’s attempt to lift her spirits. “Thanks, Emilio. You always know how to make me feel better.”

He settled on the bed beside her, handing her a mug. “Listen, I know Jason’s been a jerk, but you can’t let him define your worth. You’re amazing, Skylar, and anyone would be lucky to have you.”

Tears welled up in Skylar’s eyes as she gazed at her brother, touched by his words. “I just don’t understand why he said those things. I thought we were closer than that.”
