Mabel woke up the next morning to the sound of someone banging on her door. She groaned in annoyance as she had barely gotten any sleep due to her trying to clear the dust from her room.
"Wake up, you fat pig," she heard her half-sister's voice, and this just urged her to continue her sleep."Fine, I'll go tell Dad that you refused to see him after he called you," she heard Kendra say, and this was effective in getting Mabel up.She jumped off her bed and opened the door to find an annoyed Kendra at her door. "You fat pig, do you know how long I've been at the door?!""Less than three minutes," Mabel rolled her eyes at her overly dramatic sister."Wow, someone seems to have grown some guts after spending time away from us," Kendra sneered and she dragged Mabel by her hair. The latter was left helpless as if she touched Kendra, her father and stepmother wouldn't spare her."Just because you managed to get into that prestigious college and graduate top of your class doesn't change the fact that you're a bastard who has been leeching off this family's niceness for years," Kendra growled.'To hell with their niceness!' Mabel yelled inwardly. All the days she had spent with them were torture for her."Let go of her, Kendra. I'll handle it," came the sudden voice of Kelvin and Mabel felt her blood go cold. She didn't want to be left alone with him after what he had repeatedly done to her. She would rather stay with Kendra than Kelvin as he was the cruelest one of the two siblings."I'll go meet Dad as he is calling me," she told them and like lightning, she ran away from there as fast as she could.Mabel looked back continuously to make sure she wasn't being followed and it made her bump into someone who turned out to be her father."I'm sorry, dad," she quickly apologized while also closing her eyes, anticipating him to hit her."Useless," Anthony inhaled sharply. "Follow me!" He then ordered Mabel and she did as he told her. He walked to his study and she followed quietly. When she entered, he closed the door and went to look at his desk. "Go through this," he said, picking up a file and tossing it to her.Mabel caught it and then opened it to read. According to what she was looking at, her father or whoever he sent to do the job, had applied to the Romero's company to work as an intern. The company seemed to be reputable so why was her father trying to get her into it when he didn’t care about her?"I know you're asking yourself why I applied there for you and I really hope you’re not thinking I’m doing this because I love you. I do not give a shit about you,” Anthony said and even though Mabel knew it, it still hurt to hear her father’s words.“I did so because this move is good for the family especially as no one knows who you are. You will infiltrate their company and get intel," Anthony explained. And he was right. After her mom gave birth to her, she gave her maiden name instead of her father's name to her, something Anthony didn't bother to change as he didn't accept her.The door opened and Kelvin walked into the room like a king as he took his seat on the couch in the room. What her father was asking her to do was both morally and legally wrong but she didn't have the guts to speak up."I want you to work there as an intern so you can get Intel about their company and give it to us. Being in the company will give you access to a lot of things. All of which you will share with Kelvin or me," her father stated and Mabel clenched her fist."And that's not all you have to do to help this family take down the Romeros," Anthony continued. "I don't care how you want to do it but you must make Christian Romero fall for you so we can use it to bring him down!""F-father," Mabel finally spoke up. Stealing company secrets she would try to do but she didn't want to stoop so low to break the heart of whoever the man in question was."I-I don't think I'm capable of making him fall in love with me," she spoke out. "I don't have the looks to pull it off." Kendra had always called her ugly after all so why was he sending her instead of his beloved daughter who was the prettier one?"All I hear are excuses and excuses…""... are just words for failure and I must not fail or else I will regret it," Mabel completed the words of Anthony as it was something that he had made sure was engraved in her mind."Should you fail to make Christian fall for you, then your grandparents’ death will be on you," Anthony told her and Mabel’s eyes widened in horror. Her mother’s parents were the only people she considered family as they had tried their best to protect her from her family. If something happened to them all because of her, then she would never be able to forgive herself because knowing her father, she knew it wasn’t an empty threat. He had the power to kill her grandparents and make it look like an accident.“Don’t harm them, I’ll do as you want,” Mabel assured her father.“That’s more like it. Your acceptance email should be coming in anytime soon and you'll start work immediately,” Anthony informed her.“You will report your progress to Kelvin. I want a weekly report of how it’s going,” Anthony instructed her.“Also, begin to pack your bags. You’re moving to another house, one that will make your story more believable.”“Well don’t just stand there, get a move on,” Kelvin snapped his fingers when she didn't move and Mabel immediately left the room.“Do you think she’ll be able to do it?” Kelvin asked his father after they were alone.“Of course not. All we need to do is to let her think she can and then expose her anonymously to Christian. Knowing how he hates betrayal, he’ll kill her and I’ll swoop in to bring him down for killing a family member,” Anthony said with an evil smile on his face.Anthony had everything planned out. He was tired of Mabel and he finally wanted to take her out. She would die without him having to touch her and he would take down Christian. The two biggest problems in his life would be out for good. It was like killing two birds with one stone.“Keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t mess up the plan. Use force if necessary,” Anthony instructed his son.“With pleasure,” Kelvin responded with a devious smile on his face. It had been a long time since he had fun with Mabel and he had missed it a lot. After Mabel left her father’s study, she headed straight to her room. Thankfully, she hadn’t unpacked yet and so she didn’t have to go through the stress of packing her bags once again. She was however met by someone when she got to her room and that was her stepmother.Mabel took a deep breath as she knew that the woman didn’t have any good intentions coming there. “Mother,” she called.Claire turned to look at her and in her hands was the takeou
When Christian woke up the next day, he was more calm and composed than the previous night but that didn’t mean he was going to let the lady go scot-free.He immediately got himself ready for the office after which he left his house. As per his custom, his driver drove him to the coffee shop his mother owned, where he usually got coffee every morning before going to the office. When he however got there, he found someone else already in the shop. This made him frown a bit as he had given strict orders that no one should be allowed in until after he got his coffee in order to avoid dealing with anyone. In case he didn’t show up by a particular time, the coffee shop was free to open. He looked at his watch and it wasn’t even yet time so why was someone already in it.Without wasting time, he made his way over to the woman who didn’t know he was there as she had her back turned to him. As he got closer, he realized that there was something annoyingly familiar about her. His eyes went o
‘It would have been better if I stayed at home and dealt with my family than having to deal with him,’ Mabel muttered to herself as she walked on the sidewalk. Not only was her mood ruined, but she didn’t get her coffee and now she wasn’t in the mood for it anymore.Wanting to get her mind off what had just happened, she brought out her phone and proceeded to call someone she hadn’t heard from in four years, her grandparents.Just like the last four years when she had tried to get in touch with them, the call didn’t go through and the guilt hit her once again as she was the reason why her life was in danger. If they had just abandoned her after the death of their daughter, they would have led peaceful lives. After her father made her leave the country, her grandparents kept in touch with her and sent her money for her upkeep. They were careful with it but somehow, her father found out and he was unhappy with it. He said they were just spoiling her and that she wouldn’t be able to s
Christian looked at his father and then at Dorian, he was sure they were planning something devious as they often plotted against him. "Oh yes, I almost forgot to tell you. I was going through the applications and I found the perfect person," Reginald informed Christian. He grinned inwardly as his son wasn't going to like it at all but maybe a woman who could take Christian head on was what his son needed.'You're about to go for the ride of a lifetime, you asshole,' Dorian muttered under his breath. The rest of breakfast went by with them discussing other light-hearted issues and Reginald having spent some time with his sons, retired to his room. “What twisted game are you playing this time, Dorian?” Christian immediately fired at the latter as soon as they were alone.“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Dorian feigned innocence. “It is unclear to me as to how you knew about her when you weren’t there last night and today, somehow, you knew she was going to be at the cof
“You know you’ll get into trouble with my family right?” Mabel asked as she turned to look at the car that had been following them since they left the Deville mansion.“Wouldn’t be the first time, let’s go,” Rufus shrugged as he started to make his way inside.“Have I told you how much I love you?” Mabel yelled after him.“That’s cute but I’m not interested in getting into a relationship with you,” Rufus retorted and this made Mabel smile.Even though Rufus said he would help out a bit, he didn’t however leave until they had arranged and cleaned everywhere. By the time he left, it was already dark and Mabel was beyond exhausted. Without bothering to find out who Christian Romero was, she climbed her bed and fell asleep.**** “Hmm,” Mabel groaned when the sun hit her face. She immediately used the duvet to cover it. However, she found herself unable to go back to sleep for some reason.‘Shit!’ she suddenly cursed and jumped out of her bed. She turned to look at the time and cursed on
Christian was deep in his thoughts when he heard a knock on his door. He didn’t bother to answer it as if it was one of his employees, they wouldn’t bother him and well, Dorian would just let himself in.The person knocked again and Christian like the first time, didn't bother to answer it as he wanted to be left alone. His new Executive Assistant was supposed to be coming in today and he was already late. That alone made Christian resolve to fire him once the person showed up.The door slowly opened and he assumed it was Dorian so he didn’t turn to acknowledge his presence. He was mad about his new Executive Assistant coming in late on his first day and talking to Dorian would just make him madder. He however heard the sound of heels but he still didn't turn until he heard the woman speak. ‘What?!’ He asked himself when he heard her introduce herself as his new Executive Assistant. Why was his Executive Assistant a woman despite specifically saying he didn’t want one? He slowly tu
"Has she arrived yet? Why is she late on her first day?" Reginald sighed as he walked around Dorian's office. It was the first time he had been to his company in months and it was all because he wanted to experience the chaos that would occur after Christian found out who his new Executive Assistant was."Maybe she changed her mind after finding out she’s going to be working for Christian. I know I would if I was in her position,” Dorian said mindlessly as he worked on his computer. The fact that Dorian didn’t seem bothered about the issue irked Reginald a lot. He then walked up to Dorian and hit the back of his head. “Why aren’t you excited about this?” “Because I know your son. Plus, I have a lot of work to do and you’re disturbing me, Dad,” Dorian answered and his words earned him another hit from Reginald. “You’re just as annoying as your brother,” Reginald chided, wondering how he had been able to put up with both of them for so many years.“Even if she comes in, Christian wi
Christian walked back to his office after his conversation with his father. The old man was crazy if he really thought his threat would have any effect on him. Even if Reginald fired him, his mother wouldn’t allow it to stand and so, he had nothing to worry about. However, as soon as he entered his office, he saw someone waiting for him. It was Mabel and she had a smile on her face. “What the hell is going on?!" He asked. "The head of the Audit department dropped these files for you, sir," she said as she pointed to some files on his desk. "What are you doing here?" Christian reframed his question since she was too stupid to understand his first question."I'm your Executive assistant, it's my duty to be here sir,” Mabel answered coolly as though she hadn’t quit a few minutes ago. "In addition to being annoying, brazen, and violent, are you also crazy?!” Christian asked.“I don’t quite understand, sir,” Mabel continued to feign innocence. "First you say you have no interest in
