Jason knew from the moment she stepped into his office that she was the one. Her scent was so strong that it took every strength he could muster to not turn right this moment and claim her.
It has been so long that he had all together given up on the chance of finding his mate, that person that was made just for him.
As much as he wanted to go all wolf and stake his claim on her, he knew he couldn't. She was a stranger after all and he had to take things slow.
However, one thing was certain, he was definitely not letting go of her no matter what. He was ready to take his time as long as she was his at last. So when she called his name, he turned around to put a face to that exotic voice and he knew that something was wrong somewhere.
The lady in front of him looked too good to be true. Was it just his luck that his mate just happened to look better than a runway model with an excellent taste in fashion?
Jason Halem did not believe in such good luck. He had lived long enough and had been through the worst that one could possibly think of to believe something as good as this.
What he could not deny though was the fact that she was meant to be his. The more he stared at her the more the urge to claim her surged through him. He had never felt this way before, never.
He openly stared at her from head to toe and even though she was looking at him like he was crazy, he did not mind. Even her flaws looked perfect to him and that was when he admitted that he had definitely fallen for good.
Love at first sight was not something he believed in, so the only explanation for the way he felt right now was the bond they both shared, that was what made her so irresistible.
"Why do you want to work here Miss Calvin," he asked her, practically staring into her soul.
Jasmine was a little bit taken aback by the abrupt straight forward question. She expected some exchange of pleasantries and the likes but it seemed he liked to get to the point.
She was prepared for it though, she was prepared for whatever she had to face today as long as she left here with a way to gain access into his clandestine life.
"Honestly, I love what you do here, I love what you stand for and I want to work with you," she told him with a straight face.
Needless to say there was nothing honest about her answer but she was an expert liar by now.
"You're overqualified for this position," he stated, with a blank look.
Well I know that Mr Halem, but should that be a problem?!
"I have all the qualifications needed for the job, and I promise you to do my best. You can't get anyone quite like me, I will prove that to you every single day when you hire me," she said with a sly smile.
Anyone viewing this from an outside perspective would think that she was trying to seduce him, and she was.
All things being equal, getting a job offer this very day was her priority, her ticket to selling her big story and if it meant seducing this handsome man in front of her then she was ready to play.
She puzzled him. Something about her just wasn't right, her daring words were on the top of that. What exactly gave her such audacity.
He was definitely intrigued. Even though he already decided to keep her by his side, he had to admit that she would obviously be a piece of work. He wasn't sure if he was ready for that yet, but he had no choice.
She was his mate after all, of that he was sure. Even if everything else about her was annoyingly overbearing.
"You say when, there's no assurance that you'd be hired Miss Calvin," he clarified as he calmly grabbed his chair and sat down opposite her.
He could smell her perfume even more right now, so close to her. Jasmine mixed with strawberries. It was absolutely mesmerizing but feminine. She didn't seem like the smell fitted her, but then again he was beginning to find out that she was full of surprise, and he had barely spent 5 minutes with her.
"Let's just say I'm confident," she winked.
His heart skipped a bit, like literally. She clearly did not know what she was doing to him, but how could she? He was the werewolf, the supernatural here and he just had to be that one that must be with his mate only.
"Won't you say you're a little too confident?" He asked.
"No," she answered, without a second thought, "you see I don't think I can ever be too confident, maybe because I know what I am capable of." She retorted.
For what seemed like eternity they both stared at each, you could cut through the tension apparent in the room.
She didn't know what kind of man Jason Halem was when she set out on her mission.
To be honest she was expecting a lot of things but not this, not this handsome devil staring at her like he could devour her. There was something about him, something dangerous but exciting.
Behind this brave facade, was a terrified 25 year old. She was having second thoughts, if this was worth the trouble. He did not look like someone to forgive or forget a betrayal and her ultimate mission here was to betray him.
However, she was not one to back away from a challenge. She knew he was hiding something. Rich and powerful people always had secrets and they were never innocent secrets.
She just had to be careful enough to not be caught. It wouldn't be easy, but she had been on the streets long enough to know how to take care of herself if the need be.
"Are you sure you can handle it?" He asked with the straightest of faces.
Jasmine shuddered a little.
What was so hard about being a secretary!
Was he still talking about the job?!
There was something in his eyes that told her otherwise. She could swear she saw it change color for a moment, just a moment.
Could she really handle this man? That was the only question on her mind.
She had to break eye contact and look around the large office. It was out of character for her to do this, but for the first time in a long time she was nervous.
"Well..." she began as she crossed her legs with the little space available between her chair and his desk, she folded her hands, leaned backwards on the chair and was about to respond with the most spiteful reply she could think of right now but fate had other plans.
In a second she was on the floor with a loud thud. She could see all her life mistakes flashing right before her.
She thought she had finesse! Why was life trying to utterly embarrass her at the worst times?!
She should be in pain right now but she wasn't? Something wasn't adding up.
Finally she felt strong hands cradling her, supporting her from smashing her head on this expensive floor. She could feel his muscles, strong and firm. His cologne was as she expected, masculine and mesmerizing.
He was so close to her, a little too close she realized, but she needed him. It would be foolish of her to try to scurry away from his hold as the only thing separating her from the floor was his big strong arms.
"You were saying?" He asked, with a wicked grin plastered on his face!
Gosh!
This was definitely not going as planned!
She didn't imagine in a billion years that she would have the billionaire mocking her and having a blast while at it.
Then he lifted her up and as quickly as she fell she was back up again, almost with impossible speed. For a moment she was even more dazed than earlier.
How was he able to pull her up so effortlessly?!
It almost felt like he was lifting up a piece of paper. Here she was, still sitting straight in her chair and he did all that like she weighed zero pounds.
He was staring at her, studying her, that playful smile still in his lips. She felt like kicking him in the guts even though he practically just saved her from an incredible amount of pain and possibly brain damage.
Still she had to save her face somehow. She could not let this opportunity go, even if she fell face flat on the floor a million times.
So straightened her outfit and tried to look as graceful as she could.
"I can handle it Mr Halem, regardless of what just occurred," she told him, daring him to challenge her.
Jason could not contain his laughter looking at her trying to act tough. He knew she was trouble but she was his mate and he wanted to know what kind of woman she was.
Hiring her would be the best way to get to know her better. He could still not wrap his head around why she was here though. She was overqualified for a secretary's job.
Maybe she had a past she was running away from, maybe she was a gold digger trying to get a slice of his money, or hopefully she was just looking for a way to get by.
He didn't really care why she was here. All that mattered was that he was going to make sure she stayed by his side. He was going to make her his. After one last look at her, he focused on his work computer, feigning nonchalance as he said
"You're hired."
"What?!" She asked in disbelief.
"You can start work on Monday. Meet Claire on your way out, she'll have you sign some documents. Have a nice day Jasmine, and please, call me Jason."
It was obvious he was done with the conversation at this point. She was so confused. A few moments ago she was absolutely sure there was no way she would be getting this job even though she put up a brave front.
Now that she had the job she still could not believe it.
"Thank you so much, I'll do my best," she said, but he didn't even look up.
He just nodded as a sign that he heard her alright but still had his nose in his computer. That was her queue.
Without saying anything she stood up and just out of courtesy said,
"Have a good day Sir."
He looked up at her. For a moment she thought he wanted to say something, but he didn't. He didn't say a word. He simply nodded once more and went back to whatever he was doing on his computer.
Well so much for a future good working relationship!
As she walked out of his office she wondered how working with Mr Halem would be like. Well none of that really mattered.
She had a goal to accomplish and nothing would stand in her way, not even her conscience.
"So what got you so worked up bro?" Nathan asked over the phone. "I've found her, I've finally found my mate but she's far from what I expected, definitely way beyond my imagination. She's a handful," he responded.Jason was trying to explain to his 19-year-old brother how his day just managed to take the most unexpected turns ever. He was the only one who would listen to all his tales and not lie to please him. No one could be as honest as his brother. However, knowing Nathan, he wouldn't get much reasonable advice from him. His brother was the wild type, the most spontaneous, dangerous werewolf he knew. Still, he was the most important person in his life and he wouldn't trade him for anything. After their parents were brutally killed during a blood bath orchestrated by a power-hungry Beta, a werewolf who felt it was his right to rule, it was just the two of them having each other's back like always. He didn't want to recall how his parents died. It was too cruel, without any mer
"What are you doing here?" He asked bluntly. She didn't flinch, she was used to the straightforward attitude, but as soon as the words left his mouth he regretted it. This was no way to treat her. Hope Daniels. The only person he had called friend, till things fell apart. "Good to see you too Jason, I've missed you," she replied sarcastically. "Don't be like that Hope, I've not seen you for years and now you just magically appear from thin air in my home?!" He explained. Reminding her of that fact seemed to lessen the tension in the room a little bit. He could visibly see her shoulders relax, her facial features became softer too. He could tell she was thinking back to what had ensued between them before it all went to flames. "I'm sorry, I just couldn't stick around, not after you rejected me," she confessed. For a moment they just stared at each other, memories flooding through. Her eyes were telling him to understand her, to see why she had to do that and as much as he wa
It was Jasmine's first day working for the mysterious Jason Halem. She had prepared for this day, dreamt of it even. She had imagined how she should strategize from day 1 and steal his heart and body then stab him in the back with the sharpest knife possible. It was pure evil and she loved it, she loved every bit of it. However, the start of the day was particularly gloomy. The sun refused to shine and hid in a corner for a long while. The clouds looked like they were about to shed tears of sorrow. Something felt off but she shrugged it off and kept her mind focused on what was important at the moment: Jason Halem. She looked around the beautiful apartment she now occupied courtesy of a billionaire boss and a company so far away from town. The place was absolutely beautiful. The interior was a gorgeous blend of black and white colour in the most aesthetic form possible. Yes, it looked expensive but it didn't seem like his style though. Well, maybe that was because it was built for
Chapter 6 Jason had no rest throughout the weekend, the nightmares have begun more fiercely now and he was always looking over his shoulders for fear of the unknown. "He's coming back," was the last word Hope said to him before she left his once peaceful and safe home. She never brought good news, not now, not before. He had to hold a meeting with the pack, to let them know of this newfound information but he had a hard time processing it in the first place. As usual, Nathan was the first person he spoke to about it and as expected Nathan decided to leave college and come stay with him for a while. He could not persuade him not to do that, he didn't want to stop either, he needed him, now more than ever. Nathan was the kind of person to sacrifice all for his loved ones and even though he behaved like he did not care, he did, a lot more than he let on.Before Nathan came Jason could not function properly. His emotions were all over the place and it was a full moon that night. He
Chapter 7 "Erm…. I… I just wanted to say thank you, for giving me this opportunity to work with you," Jasmine told him as she entered his office. He had a feeling she wanted to say more than that but was temporarily stunned by the way he spoke to her. She looked a little bit flustered, maybe she wasn't so confident after all. It amazed him that he could do that to her, make her feel this way, it showed that she was human after all, unlike him. She looked beautiful even as she just awkwardly stood there. She looked drop-dead gorgeous like she would be the death of him someday. "You don't need to thank me, this is not charity," he replied. He was trying his best to keep his distance, at least until his life was calmer, which might never be. However, right now was not the best period to spark a steamy office romance. He had his head filled with war and possible attack strategies and here his mate was, turning his world upside down. "I know, but I just thought it was proper cou
Chapter 8 All eyes were on them as they walked together out of the company building, everyone from the staff on the top floor to Claire the receptionist behind her counter. She could imagine herself being the talk of the day on every employee's lips. Jason did not care. Even though he was particular about his public image, he saw no need to hide his relationship with Jasmine. They are just going for lunch, nothing more. They would have a lot more to talk about when he eventually claimed her as his mate. His employee had creative minds, after all, it was an entertainment agency, so he could already imagine them creating a billion scenarios just because he was seen walking beside the new secretary. It was obvious that this was a rare sight to behold. Jason Halem always walked alone, unless when work forced him to relate with humans. As a result, he didn't blame them for acting so shocked. "Are you okay with so much attention?" He asked Jasmine. He was concerned about how she was de
CHAPTER 9"So on a scale of 1 to 10, how was it?" Jason asked. "Do you mean the food?" Jasmine asked to clarify. He nodded with an expectant look on his face. "Well it broke my scale, that's for sure, it was delicious!" She replied. He smiled at that, one of those genuine smiles of his that brought more colour to his stunning eyes. "I knew you'd like it," he told her. "Thank you," she said out loud, but she wanted to say "I'm sorry", but her cold heart rationalized that there was nothing to be sorry for, at least not yet. Even though she had the worst intentions she hasn't done anything wrong yet. However, her lack of action wasn't because of unwillingness, she just hadn't gotten the chance yet. "So how's work so far?" He asked. It was obvious he was trying to keep the conversation going, it was cute seeing him trying to make small talk. She knew he wasn't one to waste words, he was one of those annoying straight to the point kind of people. Seeing him making so much effort
CHAPTER 10"I'm not really in the mood for whatever naughty imaginations going through your mind right now Nathan," Jason made clear while settling down in the office chair. "Well that's too bad, because I'm in the mood to make fun of you," Nathan replied with a smile breaking on his lips. "Make fun of me all you want, but don't drag Jasmine into your childish games" Jason cautioned him. Nathan flinched a little. He especially hated being called childish, even if it was implied. He was always treated like a child, always protected and told to hide. But he wasn't a child anymore and it was hard for his big brother to realize that he was now a man. Jason rarely said that to him, unless when it was really serious, he knew he hated the word too so he must be onto something here. "So she has a name, after all, Jasmine…. She sounds feisty," He spoke like he was putting an image to the name. His eyes were squinted like he was actually thinking about something serious. Jason did not lik
