I gulped as Kaemir came closer, still staring at me. The corridor outside was empty of life, but Icaan was still careful. Somewhere the commander must have been trying to do something. Putting the ship on autopilot, Icaan got up and came to me. My ship looked strange now I'd been off it for several days. It had been my home for so long, but it was clear that it had seen better days. Now I'd been away from it for a while, I noticed the wear and tear. Panels were scratched and warped where I'd had to remove them so many times. The floor was scuffed and dirty, feet having walked over it for years, dragging in all sorts from markets and planets the galaxy over.I slowly walked through the hallway to the main cockpit, trying to ignore the panels that Icaan had removed so he could get at the components underneath. Alarms blinked on the console, letting me know that the ship had been butchered, but there was nothing I could do. I gripped the arms of the seat again and again as asteroids narrowly missed us. This wasn't my idea of fun. Icaan however, seemed to be as calm as anything, almost as if he was mesmerized by the task, in some kind of zone.I'd heard that Frentin had also been bred to bypass fear. That their brains literally thrived in situations that were dangerous and required skill and reflexes to see them through.
