Episode 4

Writer's POV

Ms. Habsburg, Mr. Carter doesn't want anyone in his room except for his bedroom and study, so feel free to do whatever you want elsewhere," Rufus Beta informed Selena.

Selena realized that Rufus was likely allowing her to stay here because of his sister. He would do anything to see his sister recover from her illness.

Selena wasn't bothered by Davies' update. Instead, she nodded happily and said, "Thank you."

Davies gave the maid a look. The maid greeted Selena and said, "Please, come with me."

Selena followed the maid to the second floor. As she thought of something, she looked back at Davies, who was about to leave, but hesitated to speak.

"Excuse me..."

Davies stopped when he heard her, turned around, looked at the maid first, and replied shortly, "Someone will assist you tomorrow. And the name is Davies..."

"Oh, right..."

Selena nodded without saying anything else.

The maid led her to a room with great light on the corners side of the second floor.

"Are you satisfied with this room, Ms.? If not, I can change it for you."

Selena stood at the doorway, examining the room. It was clean and bright, with excellent lighting.

She thought to herself that Rufus was a kind man!

Not only did he agree to her request, but he also provided her with this well-furnished room.

"Thank you... everything is perfect," Selena murmured to the maid while looking around the room.

"I'll have the cook prepare your dinner," the maid finally said before leaving the room.

After dinner, Selena took out a set of pajamas from her bag, went to the bathroom to freshen up, and lay down on the soft, large bed.

After the exhausting wedding, she was very tired, but when she closed her eyes, her mind was racing and she couldn't sleep.

When Selena thought about Williams leaving, she couldn't suppress the urge to feel sad.

Selena closed her eyes and sat up, taking a deep breath to encourage herself.

However, her eyes turned into a white fur and blue eyes when she flipped them open.

"Meeka, let me out..." Selena shouted.

"That's exactly what you get for marrying a total stranger... Don't worry you won't feel a thing... Night night!"

The Next Morning!!!

"Ms Selena!!!"

A knock sounded on the door and Selena groaned loudly as she flipped her eyes open.

"What the...?"

Why would she say she was sleeping on the floor?

And the bruises all over her arm?

"Damn it all Meeka..." She murmured loudly as the memories of her wolf taking over the previous evening came flooding back to her.

"Ms Selena..." The knock sounded again.

"Twenty more minutes..."

She looked at her Phone, it was 9:30, she immediately got up and walked into the bathroom to clean up and change clothes.

When she went downstairs, the servant was waiting for her at the steps, "Ms, what is it that you want to eat? I'll have the cook prepare it right away."

Selena shook her head, "Don't bother." She looked at the driver at the doorway, "We should go."

The driver drove Selena to the pack hospital. The driver took her all the way to the entrance of the ward before leaving.

Davies, who was standing at the entrance of the ward, opened the door and made a "kindly" nood.

Selena walked into the ward and what she saw was the man sitting by the bed. He was not wearing a jacket, but a white shirt and no tie. The sleeves were rolled up to reveal his beautiful wrists.

He had just finished cleaning the body of the girl on the hospital bed, and after handing the towel to the nurse, his sharp eyes looked at Selena.

The bright light from the floor-to-ceiling window spilled in and reached out to the hospital bed, beaming on the hand and face of the girl resting.

The light complexion appeared to be transparent, and even the veins should have been visible clearly.

She looks around seventeen or eighteen years of age, and her eyebrows are fairly like Rufus.

This is Rufus's sister, Angela.

Many years ago, after the death of his parents, Angela fell and stayed unconscious.

Rufus consulted practically every doctor and teacher, but they were all puzzled.

So he was very curious about what his mysterious contracted wife before him could do to save his sister.

In spite of the fact that he didn't utter a single word, Selena understood what he meant.

He had fulfilled his duty, and now it was her turn to fulfill hers, which is to save his sister.

Selena bit her lower lip and spoke in a cautious tone. "Could you all please leave us for a moment?"

Rufus' deep white eyes were filled with both coldness and calmness. He remained silent for a moment, then turned and left the ward.

Although his Beta, who was following him, had eyes filled with doubt.

Did the Alpha just leave his sister with a complete stranger?

Meanwhile, Selena glanced at the other girl in the ward. She had long dark hair, delicate features, and fair skin.

"I'm sorry..." She stepped forward and held Angela's hand. Knowing that Angela wouldn't feel it, she still said somewhat apologetically. "I promise to make it quick, it's not gonna hurt."

.....

Outside the ward.

Rufus stood with his back against the door of the ward. His dark eyes were endless, his stern face had a tight jawline, and his hands behind him were clenched into fists involuntarily.

Beta Davies asked in a worried tone.

"Alpha, do you really trust her?"

Well, even the doctors were helpless. How could she, an ordinary she wolf, save the young girl.

Rufus looked at Beta Davies, "I remember there was surveillance in the ward."

Davies quickly took out his cell phone and opened the surveillance software. He handed the phone to Rufus.

Rufus lowered his eyes and saw Selena on the screen. Both of her hands were emitting pink light. She held Angela's head with both hands.

Davies also saw it, and his expression suddenly changed, "Alpha, she is trying to harm Ms Angela."

He turned around and tried to push open the door to the ward, but the man stopped him with a cold voice, "Stop!"

Davies turned with an anxious expression and hesitated to speak " But Alpha..."

Rufus raised his hand meaning enough.

After ten minutes or so, the ward's door swung open, and Selena looked up to see Rufus standing at the entrance.

His handsome features showed no emotion, but his sharp eyes scanned her face before settling on the hospital bed.

Davies observed Angela from afar, still asleep as before. He frowned and asked, "Miss Habsburg, why hasn't Miss Angela woken up yet?"

There was a hint of impatience in his tone.

Selena remained silent, her gaze fixed on Angela's pale face. Uncertainty flickered in her eyes, but she remained calmer than Davies.

"She will wake up soon," she replied softly.

"How soon?" Rufus' thin lips formed a straight line, his voice cold.

Selena thought for a moment before answering slowly, "Within a week, at most."

Rufus didn't question her response and instructed Davies, "Escort Miss Habsburg out."

"No need," Selena declined his offer, "I have classes today, and there's a bus station nearby. I can just take the bus."

"Alright," Rufus nodded without further institing.

But as Selena turned to leave, he suddenly called out, "Wait a minute."

Selena looked back at him, curiosity in her clear eyes, "Mr. Rufus, is there something else?"

Rufus didn't respond immediately, but gave Davies a meaningful look, prompting Davies to leave first.

"How did you know about Angela's illness?" Rufus asked intently when they were alone.

Selena's eyelashes fluttered slightly, her eyes darted around, her mind racing, before she blurted out, "I heard it from Ava, of course."

"Really?" Rufus's voice was calm, devoid of any emotion. He repeated in the same tone, "But I never told Ava."

Apart from the Carter family, no outsiders were privy to Rufus's personal matters.

So how did she come to know about Angela's illness then?

Selena swallowed hard as her eyes was locked with Rufus's eyes.

Just when Selena was thinking for a way out, her phone rang.

"Sorry.. but I have to leave now..." She murmured and then rushed out of the ward.
