chapter two

Rita’s POV

Hi there, I’m Rita Davis, a first-year student at Picaremore University in the bustling metropolis of Shenza City. Life wasn't always like this for me. I was raised as the only child by my father in Lacoste Town, a quiet little place far from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

But ever since I lost my mother at the tender age of eight, things have been different.Growing up, I always dreamed of studying in Shenza City. It was a dream shared by many youngsters in Lacoste Town, a glimmer of hope in an otherwise ordinary existence.

So, I worked tirelessly throughout high school, participating in every extracurricular activity, and achieving perfect grades to qualify for the coveted Picaremore University scholarship.

When the scholarship finally came through, it was like a beacon of hope shining brightly upon me. I still remember the jubilation and celebration that ensued when I received my admission letter. Little did I know that my journey to Shenza City would be fraught with challenges, some of which I never could have imagined.

I soon came to the realization that Shenza City is not just a place of opportunity; it's also a place of intrigue and danger. At its heart, two formidable powers reign supreme: the Fidelis family and the Charlie family.

The Charlies, entrenched in history and wealth, trace their origins to a mafia conglomerate that once held sway over the city's underworld. Though they've distanced themselves from their illicit past, their influence remains unshakable.

While the patriarch's (charlie wilson) identity is widely known, the same cannot be said for his enigmatic son, shrouded in mystery and intrigue.

On the opposing front, the Fidelis family's wealth derives from the lucrative crude oil industry. They own the largest oil distribution company in Shenza City, and their reach extends into the transportation sector, making them formidable contenders in the city's power play.

They could be considered the wealthiest family in Shenza. Many even believe they are, but the debate persists among many that the Charlie family may have more wealth, and it simply seems like the Fidelis are richer because the Charlies are laying low.

The ongoing debate about the power the Charlies once held keeps both families in the media spotlight as efforts are made to ascertain the true extent of the Charlies' wealth.

Despite their retreat from the public eye, the Charlies remain elusive, never granting media interviews or access to outsiders at functions, with their gates having been shut to the public for decades now.

Fredrico is the second child of the fidelis family, his brother, Fabian currently oversees the business with their father. Everyone tries to be in his good book so that he could help them secure a position in his family’s business when he officially starts working there.

The fidelis company has good staff packages which propel everyone to want to work there and its almost impossible to secure a slot in the company without knowing any of the top management.

Rita!!!!, I turned around to see Fredrico running after me with his bodyguard ahead of him.

Iwanted to run as i could tell that hell will break loose if he catches up to me but before I could move an inch, his bodyguard caught up with me grabbing me by my arm.

Fredrico, let me go. I screamed but it came out as more of a plea than a request. But he did not even listen to me and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t shake off myself from the grip of his bodyguard. He lifted me off the guard on slung me on his shoulder like I weighed nothing.

He had his hand over my mouth and my screams came out as muffles. I felt so helpless at that point at tears started dripping off my face wondering how my poor father will bear to live if this bastard kills me now.

I did not even realize we had reached his car until I felt my but hit the seat of the car and before I could even blink, the car zoomed off. The moment we left the school premises, I knew all hope of being saved was lost already. I had no one to look for me.

In the last three month that I had moved to Shenza City, I have made no friend and I can count the number of times I have exchanged pleasantries with my flat mate with just a hand. Clara is barely in the hostel; she stays with her parents most time and only sleeps in the hostel whenever she feels like.

I have no friend at my workplace either, my boss will simply probably assume I quitted without informing him because I found a better job while I will be rotting away in some alley or gutter; wherever he may choose to dispose off my body to.  The mere thought of this brought tears to my eyes.
