“Welcome to the Xanders family Blakeley, hope you keep up.” He said and Blakeley gulped.

“So Blakeley.” Mrs. Xanders called and she turned to her.

“Yes ma’am?”

“Why my son? What is so special about him?” She asked and Blakeley glanced at Alex, he paid attention to his food and she thought about a quick response.

“Hmm, okay.” She muttered and cleared her throat.

“I know it seemed like we rushed into the marriage because it has only been six months but to me, I felt like I chose the right person to spend the rest of my life with. So far, I see him as someone who acts like he doesn't care but deep down he does, he is the type of person who can help someone in need no matter the situation.” She said and everyone paid attention to her, except Alex.

“So far, for the twenty-one years I have lived, except from growing up in a lovely home, he is the best thing that has happened to me.” She said and held Alex’s hand, he looked at her and she smiled at him.

“Awwwn, that’s so sweet.” Cassie, Alex’s sister said as she smiled.

“That is nice.” His mother said.

“She just described the opposite of Alex.” His elder brother mumbled but no one heard it.

The dinner went well and it was time for everyone to leave. Blakeley sat in the living room and watched as Alex had a conversation with his father and brother. His mother was speaking to his brother’s wife.

Cassie walked to her and sat next to her.

“Hey.” She called and Blakeley smiled in response.

“How do you like our family so far?” She asked and Blakeley shrugged.

“Fine, I guess.”

“Well, you… “ Cassie trailed off as Alex walked to them.

“Come on.” He ordered Blakeley and she stood up.

“You guys are leaving already?” Cassie asked and also stood up.

“Don't I have to say goodbye to your parents?” Blakeley asked.

“It's not necessary.” He replied and pulled her out of the house before she could say anything. They got into the car and she sighed in relief as the chauffeur drove out of the estate.

“Okay, that went well right?” She asked Alex and he nodded in response.

“Great. You’ve got a lovely family.” She complimented and he didn't give her a response, all he did was relax on the chair, close his eyes and breathe out.

“Was that your elder brother?”

“Yeah.” He replied.

“What's his name?” She questioned further.

“Dante.”

“Dante.” She mumbled.

“Was that his wife?” She asked and he looked at her.

“Quit with the questions. She is obviously his wife.”

“Oh, so what now? Your parents already met me, what is next?”

Alex sighed and rolled his eyes, her questions were starting to annoy him.

“We live and act as a couple. Isn't that what you are here for?”

“Yeah, of course.” She muttered and turned away from him.

THE NEXT DAY

MORNING

“Thank you, Logan.” Blakeley said as he poured her a glass of juice. She was having breakfast alone in the dining room. As she did, she couldn't get her mind off Dylan, she still felt hurt that he cheated on her with her best friend.

“Good morning sir.” She heard voices saying and she snapped out of her thoughts, she looked up to see Alex sitting opposite her.

He didn't spare her a look as a maid dished his meal. He was dressed in a shirt and pants.

“Good morning.” Blakeley greeted.

“Morning.” He replied and she continued with her meal. She picked on her food as her thoughts drifted to Dylan, her parents were really shocked and heartbroken when she told them she called off the wedding. She didn't tell them a reason, all she did was tell them she would be working in New York City.

She got distracted from her thoughts when she saw Alex leaving the dining room.

“Alex.” She called and he turned to her.

“Yeah?”

“Where are you going?”

“To work.”

“Oh, what am I supposed to do? I will be home all day and it gets boring.” She said and Alex glanced at Logan standing at a corner.

“Play with Logan.” He replied and walked out. Blakeley slowly turned to the old man and stared at him, he bowed at her and she sighed.

“Yeah, great.” She muttered sarcastically and turned to her meal.

HOURS LATER

Blakeley went through the pictures of Alex’s family on the internet, she decided to see how famous and wealthy his parents were.

She found out Alex’s father was a very important man in New York and Alex and Dante had different achievements but it seemed like they were competing.

She saw different pictures of his parents with the president, she wondered how sweet her life would be if her marriage with Alex was real.

Her phone rang and she sighed seeing it was her mother’s call, she had been calling her all day but she had to follow Alex’s rules of talking to them once in a while. She ignored the call and continued her research.

The door to the living room opened and Alex walked in, she hurriedly switched to a different app and dropped her phone.

“Hey.” She called.

“Hey.” He replied and was about to walk away but Blakeley called his name and walked to him.

“What?”

“I can't stay home all day. It really gets boring.” She complained and Alex looked around, he waved his hand and dismissed the maids in the living room. They all bowed before walking away.

“Questions.” Alex said and she raised a brow.

“Yeah?”

“In Los Angeles, weren't you always staying at home all day? Did you have a job? Were you productive with your life?” He asked and she kept quiet. She wasn't expecting all that from him.

“No, but I... “

“Being married to me is a job and you are getting paid for it which means, sitting at home all day is part of it.” He said and she sighed.

“Okay.” She mumbled. Alex was about to walk away again but he stopped and turned to her.

“Did you watch the news today?” He asked and she shook her head.

“Well, there should be a recap. Turn on the television and put on channel 7, you might be interested in what you see. It is the most trending news in Los Angeles at the moment.” He said and she wondered what it was, she walked to the remote and picked it up, she turned on the television and switched it to channel 7.

And there it was, her best friend's wedding was on and the groom was her ex-fiance. Dylan.

Blakeley felt her heart shatter as she watched it, he broke up with her about a week ago and he is married to her best friend. She has been a fool all along.

“He picked Malia over you, I wouldn't blame him though.” Alex said and Blakeley blinked rapidly as tears welled up in her eyes.
